[applause] so our topic is copyright and the book. very small topic. copyright and the book, authors, publishers and the public interest. i want to reflect on the title for a moment. copyright and the book is at its core a discussion about the public interest. with arthur's and publishers as part of the public interest. i would underscore that because in the more recent conversations, in political circles, it sometimes teed up as a conversation where publishers and authors are somehow and difficult to or at least in competition with the goals of the public and that is not the foundational history of copyright law in united states. we will talk about incentivizing authors, evaluating publishers, serving readers, protecting freedom of expression. we are also going to

my sister-in-law was working at time-out, new york. the food eter ditor there. she said, there's a new restaurant opening up. wiley dufrange is the chef and you have to go there. he is doing amazing things. i think it was the first or second time i met him, he somehow figured out that i was a techno freak and he said, can you get me this piece of equipment called an immersion frickulator. i went on ebay and i started buying it for him and fixing them. that's how our friendship developed. i kept him in used circulators on ebay in the early days of wd 50. that was strangely my ability to get a circulator to continue running was what started me to have the credentials to get a job at french culinary. life is weird. >> i did a piece with st. george and the dragon where i built a dag dragon, it was an air compressor that i stripped all the parts off pressurized with nitrogen. put it through an industrial blower. i built a stand, wrapped a bunch of old t-shirts soaked in kerosene. turned on the blower, opened the selenoid, big fire comes out. the doctor says it's kind
